Future of Staggered
Features missing in the new staggered that should be ported from the old one
-
Compositional: outdated implementation exists in
feature/new-staggered-impl
. @kweis and @nedc will update the implementation in January. !2986 (merged) -
Boundary conditions: not all corner cases covered, particularly for staircase grids. More discussion is required, to be performed in January. @kweis, @timok, @nedc.
-
Higher-order: !2926, other ones can be deleted. Can be implemented after decisions for the boundary conditions have been made.
-
Coupling to multiphase Darcy: particularly tests in
test/multidomain/boundary/stokesdarcy
@martins, @DennisGlaeser can start with1p_2p
, the rest needs compositional first. -
Turbulence models: !2930, further design discussion and decisions are needed @nedc.
-
Restart: #1108 (closed) @bernd.
-
Further unported tests:
- !2830 (merged): fix by new reference solutions? @mathis after consulting !2838 (merged).
- !2847 (closed): needs reimplementation of higher-order @nedc.
Features in final-phase individual PhD and other projects that should be integrated into the mainline
-
Coupling to pore-network: !2929 (merged) @kweis.
-
Interface conditions for pore-network in the presence of droplets: @Cynthia will provide a pub module, can be benefitial for @ackerm and @Maziar.
-
@melaniel´s local refinement: appears to be too complex to be ported to the new staggered. The idea would be to use the upcoming unstructured staggered schemes. Technically, this requires the scheme to work also on simplices, which is still ongoing work.
Planned CR/RT-FV implementation
-
Implementation already uses new staggered.
-
The main current focus is on making it stable for simplices.
-
Then it will be integrated into mainline and more physics will be incorporated.
Distribution/Transfer of responsibilities to people that have a longer future with DuMux
-
Everybody is encouraged to get into the new staggered.

@kweis will give a presentation on 2022-01-13 at 12:00 CET.
