[ci] find ref commit in check-pipeline

Dennis Gläser requested to merge feature/ci-pass-reference-sha-downstream into master

This allows us to pass that reference commit downstream to e.g. dumux-lecture

TODO:

  • merge related branch in dumux-lecture first
  • remove temp commits and squash others
  • make branch unprotected again
